About me

My name is Mimi and I’m a former advertising exec who bailed out in favor of my health, sanity and self-respect. That said, I still had several fun years à la Mad Men, but enough was enough. Everything after that was a career dénouement, and now I have finally started to do what I envisioned myself doing at age 7, which is to write. I think this is a good argument for the cosmic wisdom of children under age 8.

I grew up in southwest Michigan, right on the lake, where it is beautiful in the spring, summer and fall, but winter makes you want to get an Airstream and head south.  I come from good Wisconsin-Iowa stock and love the soft rolling hills of the Midwest where humidity is my friend.

Some of my first essays are about the small town I grew up in, others are topics that interest or infuriate me.  Hope you enjoy them and feel free to contact me with any comments.

Thanks Jeanne. Don’t get too jealous. It tooke me two hours to get downtown the first week of class. chicago rush hours are ugly. There are great online classes too. I’ve taken a couple.

MimiMimiMimiMimi, I’m enjoying your posts! Glad to see you’re still writing and taking classes. I haven’t in a while (except for writing a new stand up set), but if I get inspired I’ll send it along. Hope you’re well. Adele

  4. I happened upon your blog and enjoyed it tremendously. I belive because you description of your dad reminds me of mine as well. He no longer lives close by and reading your blog brought back some fond memories for this Philly girl. Thanks for sharing I guess all dads really are the same:) I am now following your blog and wish you continued success.

  6. Mimi,
Had to check out your blog after the enticing lead on Freshly Pressed. I went to the About page before reading the post and I’m impressed. I come from good Wisconsin stock that, for whatever reason, ended up in Eastern Oregon, of all god-forsaken places. I really enjoy your blogging style. I’ll be back often. (P.S. I’m plotting my next big switch too, but I’m not as young nor as daring as I once was…the daring ran off when the children showed up.)

  7. I really enjoyed your dad post, nicely written! I like that you’re crafting your next big move. Wonderful and daring, I’ll be back to read more of your posts!

Mimi, thanks for your comments on my book. I appreciate. Your lake country sounds so beautiful in spring/summer. Wish I can exchange your winter for the heat here sometimes, not always though. I like your blogging style. Will keep in touch.

I just read this, “…and now I have finally started to do what I envisioned myself doing at age 7. Writing.” We have something huge in common. Only in my case my writer dream gained momentum when I was barely ten. Then it almost died a slow brutal death of many years only to be revived again, twenty years down the road. Life is just great 😀
